there are thermostats on most higher quality heat tapes, you can also buy something called a WinterWatchman it is a thermostat that can turn on an appliance when the temperature drops too low. Lots of snowbirds in our area have them to alert a neighbor if their heating system goes down by turning on a light placed in a window. unfortunately you'ren going to need to pull up a board or 2 in the attic and get the tape on the pipe.

Subject: Attic heater drain pipe freezing, causing leaks.? - by: maha

The drain pipe from our heater in our attic keeps freezing up, which then plugs itself. Water then "backs up" into our heater, and leaks into our attic. Luckily it's been in a closet so far.

The pipe drains on the South side of the house, and I think it worked great until our neighbors built an extension which partially blocks sunlight from naturally heating the pipe. I have considered painting it black to absorb more light.

What solutions exist to keep this pipe from freezing (perm. install)?

Most self priming pumps have a cavity built into the suction side of the pump to retain a certain amount of liquid so the pumping process can begin as soon at the pump is started.

Pumps used with hot tubs and pool filters are the variety that most people see. Below is a site with a picture of one such pool pump along with another site with a PDF of a different design.

If you have a pump that can be used internally or externally, how do you prime it if it's non-self priming and you are using it externally? All the diagram show is that the pump is outside the tank and lower than the water line, but how do you get the water to the pump to begin with?

Subject: How does a centrifugal pump work? - by: maha

A centrifugal pump works by the conversion of the rotational kinetic energy, typically from an electric motor or turbine, to an increased static fluid pressure. This action is described by Bernoulli's principle. The rotation of the pump impeller imparts kinetic energy to the fluid as it is drawn in from the impeller eye (centre) and is forced outward through the impeller vanes to the periphery. As the fluid exits the impeller, the fluid kinetic energy (velocity) is then converted to (static) pressure due to...

Service enough swimming pools, and eventually you're going to do some work on the circulation system. And at the heart of that system is the pump - the component that drives the water so it can be filtered, heated, mixed with air bubbles, treated with chemicals or just moved around so bathers can enjoy a relaxing dip.

Depending on the size of the vessel and what you want to do to the water, every pool or spa (that's not a wading pool) will be fitted out with various pieces of equipment placed in line wit...

The fork lift does not have a transmission, they use a electric motor for travel and a electric motor for the hydraulic pump. Depending on the age, but most hard parts are probably not availible, consumable parts like tips and brushes and seals are able to cross to something availible today. the motors only move on operator demand. the drive motor turns in both directions. the expensive part is the battery.

Subject: Re:The working principle of centrifugal pump - by: maha

A centrifugal pump is a pump that uses a rotating impeller to increase the velocity of a fluid. The fluid enters the pump impeller along or near to the rotating axis and is accelerated by the impeller, flowing radially outward into a diffuser or volute chamber, from where it exits into the downstream piping system. The velocity energy added to the water by the spinning impeler is converted to pressure in the discharge of the pump. The area of the pump exit is larger than the area of the pump impeller.
