Sump Pumps

Sump Pumps are needed where there is excess water that must be pumped from a designated area. They are usually mounted on a sump; therefore, the name Sump Pumps. The most common applications are residential and industrial projects.

Sump pump types can comprehend many type of pump designations such as ballast, centrifugal, cantilever, sewage, submersible, and utility pumps. Depending on the application or the Horse power required, sump pumps can come in 120/240/480 volts for both AC and DC power. Some other ones are even powered by pneumatic and hydraulic motors.

Selection can be a little difficult due to the overwhelming variety of pump types available for Sump Pumps. It is important to considered many types of pump principal, Pit, and Size of the pump. There are applications where one principle of the pump will be more adequate than other one. As always when selecting a pump, you need to consider the following application variables as Discharge Flow, Differential pressure, type of fluid, temperature of the fluid, solids percentage, total head, and NPSH. This will determine the size, materials of construction, and other elements in the pump construction.

The importance of a sump pump in residential and industrial application is very high due to the fact that they are the first line of defense in flooding situations. For residential applications, sump pump are extremely needed where basements tent to flood, or where water level are need to be maintained such as pools, lakes, rivers, etc. Industrial applications really vary, but its importance is of equally or greater value. Therefore, the need for good selection and maintenance of your sump pumps. Some application require that the sump pump be on stand by for longer than expected times, and their tendency to propitiate problems at start up times. Back up sump pumps are a very nice route to overcome that tendency; however, the budget might not be there.
