Peristaltic or Hose are positive displacement pumps that usually have a flexible hose inside a casing that is compressed with a roller from end to end. It is usually encapsulated in a circular case; however, there are design that are made linearly in one, two, and more hoses. The fluid is moved alone the hose or hoses with each pass of the shoe or rollers. Since in a peristaltic pump, the hose inside diameter is always known, and the distance of the hose too, one can accurately determine the flow capacity very accurate; therefore, they are often used as metering pumps. There is no cross contamination of the fluid being pumped; hence, the ability to used them in the medical and pharmaceutical fields.
