Grinder pumps are one type of specialized pumps that complete two functions at once. They take large particles of solids, usually sewage, and grind them for transfer or disposal. The end product is a very fine slurry that will not clog main sewer lines or any other pipe lines where they are used. Usually used on septic tanks applications, they can be installed indoors or outdoors. Depending on the climate, the outdoor installation has to be below ground to avoid freezing of the fluid inside the pump or lines. Industrial and municipal applications, call for larger grinder pumps, making them a very helpful device. Sometimes they are used in large waste water treatment plants, and or lakes where debris can be found, and regular centrifugal pumps will clogged.
There are different ways in which designers have been able to make a centrifugal pump grind. Usually the start with an open impeller to avoid clogging inside the veins. Then, they make the interference of the impeller fit the chopping stationary blades. As it pumps, the debris flows outward through the impeller tp the stationary blades and starts chopping. As stated, there are different types of grinder pump operations. |
